How toxic is our Vegetables these days?

I believe many of you all have thought of this question before and I believe many have left it unanswered but for those who did answered it, they would  have turned to organic food by now LoL.

I have visited one of the famous farming locations recently and did some research on how the farmers farm these days and hopefully to get some answers to the question as well. It was a fruitful trip and it has been eye opening and shocking as well but I don’t really blame these farmers as they do not have a sustainable way or other better way to do so. Who to blame? Well you know who.

Insect and bacteria have been constantly boosting their immune system and getting stronger and stronger daily and pesticide to them is just another “spa treatment” and this has led to higher demand for stronger pesticide, if not all their crops will be gone over night and this means our vegetables is having higher toxic residue.

So how much of pesticide or toxic chemical has been used to grow our vegetable these days? See it for yourself and mind you, many of these chemicals are banned in the US and some other countries.

This mixture is to spray on crops biweekly and this barrel contains all the following pesticides and chemicals.

All these product shares one common label – “Berbahaya/Racun” (Harmful/Poison)

Why not use organic materials?
Well it is not easy for these farmers to switch to organic farming as there are a lot of issues that couldn’t be solved. All the farms are very close to each other and if only 1 or 2 farmers goes organic it is useless as the neighbouring farms' chemical can easily leak over or travel with the wind. Many organic products have not proven themselves as well and being expensive is another factor but most crucial is that they do not have much support from the relevant department.

Limited of land and space make it harder for organic farming

The usual suspects

Countries like Singapore has started inspection long ago to unsure all thier imported fresh fruits and vegetables do not contain prohibited pesticide, or levels of pesticide residue or toxic residue exceeding the prescribed in the schedule of the food regulation. This make it harder for all the farmers to market their crops and only be able to sell it locally with the prices are controlled by local wholesaler which in many instance the price given is very low and forces the farmer to abandon their crops and lose money.

With the fertilizer, transportation, wages, and seed prices continue to rise while the value of their produces are still low, farmers really feel the pinch and I did find out some started to wash their crops and sell it as organic food.

So I guess the lesson we can learn here is that no matter what type of vegetable or fruit we buy, whether it is vegetable from the morning market or those organic vegetable from the hypermarket, make sure we wash them thoroughly to make so the toxic level can be lowered and less harmful.
